Satkania police have arrested the so-called "Jinn King," who has been terrorizing local businesses in the Keranihat area of Chattogram for the past month. Using advanced technology, police identified and arrested 40-year-old Md. Riaz Uddin, son of Md. Hossain from Bhoyalia Para, Ward 7, Satkania Municipality, on Friday, November 30, 2024.
According to police, Riaz Uddin used several mobile numbers to threaten local business owners and extort money. The threats caused widespread panic among traders, leading them to file general diaries with Satkania Police Station. During the investigation, it was revealed that at least 30 to 40 traders in Keranihat had received threats from the so-called "Jinn King."
On November 15, 2024, a fire broke out in the shop of trader Mohammad Junaid in Keranihat Bazaar. Following the incident, Junaid filed a case against unknown individuals. Based on this case, police analyzed call records and SIM registrations, identifying and arresting Riaz Uddin. During interrogation, Riaz Uddin admitted his involvement and revealed the name of the main suspect, Emran.
Riaz Uddin further disclosed that multiple SIM cards, registered under his and Emran’s family members' NIDs, were being used by Emran. After Riaz Uddin’s arrest and the identification of the main suspect, local business owners breathed a sigh of relief.
The investigation also uncovered that six months ago, Emran carried out similar extortion activities in the Teknaf area, threatening traders, setting fire to Kamal’s shop, and collecting money through mobile banking services like bKash. Several cases against Emran are currently under trial in court.
Satkania Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Kamal Khan confirmed that Riaz Uddin has been sent to court, where he gave a confession under Section 164. The police are actively working to arrest the main suspect, Emran Hossain.
