Web based linksys extender setup will provide you complete access to the device. You can configure all the important settings and connect the device to your network. Moving to the next step, you have to start the extender by powering it. Powering your extender will initiate the setup of it in actual terms. By using the power adapter you have and injecting it in the device along with a wall electric outlet, start the device.
The next step of Linksys extender setup is creating a link between the extender device & computer/ laptop device. For this link there are two methods as specified here:
To establish a wired link, an ethernet cord is required. You have to inject the cord into the device ethernet port. Check your computer/ laptop device to verify the connection is done. A secured connection is required to initiate the configuration.
To establish a wireless link you need to know the default SSID & password of your linksys extender device. Generally you will get the SSID & password on the device label. Access the WiFi settings of your computer/ laptop device and hunt for your linksys extender SSID. as you find, choose it and mention the password to link with it.
Once you get the connection of your extender, launch a web browser on the same device. You can use any browser installed on your computer/ laptop device. Only use the latest version of the browser to avoid trouble in access.
Start using your browser to hunt for the http://extender.linksys.com/ portal. When the portal opens on the screen, select the set up range extender option and a new page will appear from where you need to select the extender model you own. Thereafter you need to access the admin panel by using the default login information. When you have access to the admin panel you can initiate linksys extender setup.
Now you can start configuring the settings of your extender device & connecting it with the host router device. Here are the steps you have to go with to configure linksys extender settings:
First make changes in the admin access settings. It is very important to change the default information of the admin account to keep it safe. If you don't make changes in the admin username & password then anyone who has knowledge of the admin panel can use your network without your knowledge.
Thereafter you have to connect the linksys extender to the host router device by mentioning the username & password of your router on the screen. Hit on the connect option to initiate the connection.
Next you have to create a SSID & password for your extender network. You can use the same SSID as your router network has or keep it different. Also create a strong password so no one can crack it easily.
Also check for firmware. If your device firmware is the latest one then that’s good. But if a new version is available, update it first for smooth running of the device.
Finish the configuration by selecting the finish button and reboot the device once.
When you make all the significant changes to the network and finish the configuration, you can move ahead to relocate the device. Relocation is important for the optimal use of the device.
Lastly, must test the newly created linksys extender network with the help of a wifi enabled device. Visit different areas and verify the network strength along with the speed. Also go to the area where you were experiencing network trouble before.
