  • Organize information from ‘Facebook’ using ‘Trove’

    Introduction

Users will have an access to the new Facebook search engine from 18 September, 2019 which will overcome all the loopholes of the current one. The name is “Trove” which was introduced before two weeks. It has made the search on Facebook quite easy and extensive which has not been the case beforehand. It is not the most perfect search engine but certainly impressive with a lot of amazing features. Most importantly it will not replace the standard Facebook search, but instead there will be a special login for trove which you can access through Facebook account details. Trove is an initiative to enable social search capable enough to connect people, places and things all over the space in the most flexible way.

    How does it work?

Once you have logged in to Trove using your Facebook access details, it will start scanning your Facebook account to gather information regarding your posts, friends updates, photos and links, friends' posts, and others, for creating a search index with the help of which users can have an access to any information on any particular day at any specific time. This helps users to search for videos, images, links, names, and much more for a given date and time. Initially Trove presented search results in an order based on relevance first. But this irritated the early users as people would first like to see recent updates and happenings taking place with the account. So then the programming team made some changes which lead to results been shown in the reverse chronological order sorted by date.

Bubble, Speech, Frame, Comic, Talk, Thinking

    Features

    • Search results in case of Trove are not based on the exact text matching. Instead it even displays results with words which are directly related and even displays results based on words which contain the search word as a subset. As an example, it will display results related to restaurants and eating if users will type food in the search blank. Another example, it will display results related to cats and caterpillar if users will type cat in the search blank.

    • Multiple filters are provided by Trove on the results page which helps users to filter search by having an access only to the videos, images, links or names, etc.

    Loopholes

    • It lacks the feature of making users search only through their content or the content of any particular friend. The development of the required interface is still in process.

    • It does not facilitate Facebook Group searching, and updating scanning of users quite often.

    Future

Being a search engine for Facebook, privacy and confidentiality is quite certainly the biggest parameter to be taken into account. Trove satisfies the security concern by embedding a privacy policy which lets only users see the information after connecting to the service and also enables them to restrict their data from viewing by friends or third parties. Also they are in the process to install the functionality of users being able to delete their data which is indexed as well as their account if required.

Trove plans to overcome the limitations in the near future which we mentioned above. Also they are planning to improve on the login and scanning process as due to the slow application programming interface of Facebook, it consumes a lot of time of users to login and have a content index scan of their account. Trove’s strength comes into play only when it scans Facebook thoroughly for a detailed search rather than scanning in a limited manner for a brief search. So they expect to overcome this barrier pretty soon.

Trove plans to expand its service to other social networking sites as well such as Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. with initially starting from Facebook. Once Trove gets into the groove, it will certainly be the most effective social search engine for multiple social networking sites.
